How to Attract Birds to Your Window in Under 7 Days.

Even if you've never fed a bird before.

Let me save you a week of frustration.

Most first-time bird feeder owners give up on day 3.

They stick the feeder on the window, throw some random seeds in it, wait a day, see nothing, and start thinking the birds hate them.

They don't. You just haven't given them a reason to show up yet.

Here's exactly what to do. Do these 6 things and I promise you'll have birds landing on your window within a week.

1. Put it on the right window.

Not every window works.

Pick one that gets morning sunlight but isn't blasted with hot afternoon sun. Birds love warmth in the morning and shade later.

Avoid noisy windows next to loud AC units, doors people keep opening, or streets with heavy traffic. Birds are nervous. They need calm.

If you have a cat, that's fine. Just make sure the feeder is on a window where the cat can watch through the glass but can't reach it from outside.

2. Clean the glass. Actually clean it.

Suction cups don't work on dust, grease, or old fingerprints.

Take 30 seconds. Wipe the glass with a damp cloth. Then dry it fully. Then wipe the suction cups too.

Press them onto the glass hard for 30 full seconds. Count it out. Don't rush this.

If you rush this, your feeder falls off in 3 days and you blame the product. Don't be that person.

3. Use the right seeds. This one matters most.

Skip the cheap "mixed bird seed" bags at the supermarket. Half of it is filler that birds throw on the floor.

Start with this:

• Black oil sunflower seeds. The number one universal bird food. Almost every bird likes them. If you buy nothing else, buy these.
• Nyjer (thistle) seeds if you want finches specifically.
• Peanuts (unsalted, chopped) if you want bigger birds like cardinals and jays.

Fill the feeder about halfway. Not too much. Fresh seed brings birds. Stale, wet seed scares them off.

4. Add water nearby if you can.

Birds care about water almost as much as food.

If you have a windowsill outside, put a small dish of water there. If not, skip it. It just speeds things up.

5. Then leave it alone.

This is where most people mess up.

They keep opening the window to "check". They tap the glass. They wave at the birds. They move the feeder around.

Stop.

Fill it once. Walk away. Let the birds discover it in silence.

The first bird usually shows up between day 2 and day 5. Once one bird finds it, others follow within hours. Birds watch each other. They talk. Word spreads.

6. Refill it before it's empty.

Once the birds start coming, do not let the feeder run dry.

If they land and find it empty twice in a row, they stop coming.

Check it every 2 to 3 days. Top it up.

Usually, 2 to 7 days. Sometimes faster if you have trees or other bird feeders nearby.

Change the seed to black oil sunflower seeds if you haven't already. Move the feeder to a quieter window. Be patient. Some neighborhoods take up to 2 weeks.

Will the suction cups hold?

Yes, if you clean the glass properly and press them hard for 30 seconds. Ours hold through rain, wind, and snow.

Is it safe for the birds?

Very. Window feeders are actually safer than tree feeders. Birds fly slower near windows and quickly learn to recognize them.
